NOVEMBER 2011
The Inter club offers social and competitive volleyball, and both
aspects are well-catered for. Our Saturday slot (see the Training
Times) has been ably coached by senior players, and is proving very
popular. These mixed sessions are geared towards improving technique
and offering the opportunity for plenty of fun game-play.
The women’s team, captained by Denise, has seen many stalwarts
returning, with a scattering of new faces. A big loss will be
Claire, who’s abandoning us for the sunny beaches of Australia. The
team has played 2 and won 1 so far, so it’s really too early to
say how the season is going, but getting promoted to premier division
is still very much on the cards.
The men’s team has had a dramatic turn-around this season, which is
great to see. Last season was characterised by a lack of coaching
and team commitment, and as a result we were relegated from the premier
league. This year, though, the team have played 4, won 3.
Captained by Dustin and coached by ‘the Russian’ Denis Zuev, the team
is looking well-drilled and hungry. As ever, good results attract new
high-quality players, which bodes well for the future. The shape of the
league is still unclear, but it looks as though ULU will be our big
competitor for the promotion spot.
All in all, it’s looking good as we head into Christmas.
JULY 2011
Inter is taking a break from indoor volleyball over the
summer, but that doesn't mean we're not playing! Thanks to everyone who
came out for some old timers' volleyball in Hyde Park last month. Good
to see that we're already grooming a squad for 2030.
Summer is the time for tournaments, and the
Whitefield tournament in Bath is just around the corner. With the 2012
Olympics coming soon, there's lots of volleyball around London. Holland
Park is going to set up an outdoor court for anyone to use over the
summer, check back here for more details. There's some Beach Volleyball
to be seen at the Horse Guards Parade and the British men's and women's indoor teams will be playing in Crawley at the end of June. Let's give them our support!
